Your personal sphere of influence:

As a University Assistant (Prae-Doc), you will be an integral part of the Joao Matos research team, contributing to the study of mechanisms of meiotic recombination. The group is based at the Max Perutz Labs, located within the Vienna BioCenter Campus, a leading hub for molecular biology research.
The Center for Molecular Biology (ZMB) was established in 1992 to consolidate all molecular biology research groups at the University of Vienna. In 2005, the Max Perutz Labs were founded to further strengthen collaborations with the life sciences departments of the Medical University of Vienna, fostering a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment.
What sets our team apart is its international and collaborative spirit, bringing together scientists from diverse backgrounds to advance cutting-edge research in molecular biology.

The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years. The employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension. With appropriate work progress, an extension to a total maximum of 4 years is possible.

Your future tasks:

You will be actively involved in research, teaching, and administration, which includes:
• Contributing to a research project focused on reconstituting the initial steps of synaptonemal complex assembly.
• Conducting and completing your dissertation.
• Participating in publications, academic articles, and presentations.
• Engaging in teaching activities, including independent course instruction in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
• Assisting in the organization of meetings, conferences, and symposia.
• Handling administrative tasks related to research, teaching, and departmental operations.
• Supervising BSc and MSc students in their research projects.

This is part of your personality:

• University degree in Biology, Molecular Genetics, or a related field.
• Successful admission to the Vienna BioCenter (VBC) PhD Program.
• Hands-on experience in protein expression and purification.
• Strong foundation in structural biology.
• Proficiency in structural analysis tools.
• Training in mathematics, providing a solid analytical background.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and imaging software.
• Basic experience in academic writing.
• Didactic skills and experience with e-learning.
• Fluency in English (C1 level, written and spoken).
• Ability to work effectively in a team.
• Familiarity with university structures and administrative processes.
