Scientific Director (f/m/x)
at the Institute of Culture Studies (IKW)
The statutory mission of the OeAW is to “promote science in every aspect”. It fulfils its mission through a total of 27 research institutes, which are engaged in innovative research of international standing in a variety of disciplines.
The Institute of Culture Studies in Vienna (IKW) is a lively and productive center and engages in a broad portfolio of cultural research studies. It has established its main research areas (Knowledge Production, Memory Culture and Antisemitism Studies) and is now seeking to develop them further.
The OeAW is looking for a Director, who can continue to develop the institute’s extremely high scientific potential and fill it with further perspectives. The newly appointed Director should have core competences in the established subject areas and be committed to develop them further with innovative theoretical and methodological questions.
We welcome an ambitious personality with extensive experience in the research areas of the institute. The ideal candidate will combine an excellent academic profile with experience and knowledge of leadership, staff development and management skills.
The Director’s responsibilities include the acquisition of highly competitive third-party funding and the implementation of the OeAW’s career model.
We offer an internationally attractive salary as well as an annual personnel and research budget. The role as Director is subject to evaluation every 5 years.

- Research concept and proposal for the strategic development of the IKW, including your approach to Cultural Studies (maximum 4 pages)
- A list of publications, with pdf files of the four most important publications
- Curriculum vitae including an overview of recent research activities and successful grant applications (maximum 4 pages) as well as an overview of leadership experience
