Your personal sphere of influence:

The Organic Synthesis Group of Prof. Maulide in the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna is currently seeking a PhD student with research experience in organic chemistry and natural product synthesis for 4 years temporary employment relationship. 

Our Team currently consists of 10 post docs, 13 prae docs, 2 senior scientists and administrative colleagues.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declation. 

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

• Studies on the stereoselective preparation of organic compounds. Special emphasis on the development of new synthetic reactions and reaction sequences, with a focus on the synthesis of bifunctional and photoactive molecules, the chemistry of diazirines and diaziridines, as well as their derivatives, the synthesis of halogenated heterocycles, transition-metal-catalyzed cross-soupling reactions and boronations, as well as the chemistry of alkynes.    
• We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
• You work on your dissertation and its completion.
• You teach within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
• You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

• Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of Chemistry with profound knowledge and practical experience in the field of Organic Synthesis.
• Ability to work independendly in the field of organic synthesis, including working under inert atmosphere.
• Experience with the chemistry of diazirines and diaziridines, as well as the synthesis of bifunctional photoactive molecules.
• Experience with the synthesis of heterocycles, in particular imidazoles, and their selective halogenation.  
• Experience with the transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions and boronations.  
• Experience with the synthesis and reactivity of alkynes.  
• Basic experience in academic writing and with research methods.
• Excellent command of wirtten and spoken English.
• IT user sikills: e.g. Microsoft Office, ChemOffice
• You should be a team player with high social skills
