Main areas of work
The position is assigned to the research project ‘Manuscripts with picture cycles in the early incunabula period’, which is funded by the Austrian Science Fund FWF. The FWF finances scientific projects that are selected on the basis of international peer review procedures.

Your future tasks:
- You will independently develop descriptions, analyses and contextualisations for a defined corpus of manuscripts with pictorial programmes in the Austrian National Library and summarise your findings according to the rules that apply to the series ‘Die illuminierten Handschriften und Inkunabeln der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek’.
- Together with the other project participants, you develop solutions to research questions that arise from or are related to the project objectives.
- You participate in the academic discussion on book illumination in the age of incunabula in the form of lectures and publications.
- You are engaged with creativity and energy in the scientific activities of the project group (organisation of conferences, exhibitions, communication of research results to a wider public, etc.).
- You take on editorial tasks in connection with the written dissemination of research results.
This is part of your profile:
- Doctorate/PhD degree in art history with an outstanding result, specialising in medieval art, preferably book illumination
- Very good knowledge of Latin
- Very good knowledge of German and English; knowledge of at least one other living foreign language
- Research and publication experience
- Innovative strength
- Efficiency and target orientation
- You are a team player
