A PhD position for a university assistant (prae doc) is available at the Department of Functional Materials and Catalysis at the Faculty of Chemistry for 3 years temporary employment relationship. The group of Prof. Hans Flandorfer at the University of Vienna mainly focusses on structure and thermodynamics of inorganic materials systems. The topic of the planned research is on synthesis and characterization of Li-ion battery active electrode materials. The research project takes place in the interdisciplinary and international framework. Thus, this position requires a high level of commitment and communication. The project combines materials chemistry synthesis methods, thermochemical measurements, and structural characterization.
You have previous knowledge in materials chemistry related to solid state chemistry, experimental thermochemistry, microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Moreover, you have a working knowledge of university procedures and structures. Ideally, you have been involved in scientific work and have gathered some international experience.  

Your future tasks:

The successful candidate will continue our work within the FFG-Project MoSiLIB which is dedicated to the development and characterization of new anode materials based on SnS2/Si composite materials. Also, LNMO materials for the cathode of a full cell are included in our investigations. This means thermochemical measurements, structural investigations and interpretation of electrochemical experiments.

Contract duration: The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship will automatically be extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.
