Your future position is at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology. As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will work in the project team "Enacting (digital) citizenship from below: A study on care and the uses of digital infrastructure by refugees in Bosnia and Herzegovina", funded by the Austrian Science Fund (https://www.fwf.ac.at/en/) and led by Dr. Monika Palmberger (Principal Investigator, PI) (https://www.monikapalmberger.eu/).
The project "Enacting (digital) citizenship from below: A study on care and the uses of digital infrastructure by refugees in Bosnia and Herzegovina" focuses on exploring how refugees at the borders of the EU care for themselves and others through digital infrastructure. It also examines how this engagement shapes their political subjectivities and holds the potential to enact citizenship from below. The project is based at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology and is situated within the emerging field of digital migration studies.
As part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology not only brings together renowned scientists and students, but also different research areas, a variety of ethnographic methods, a large number of outstanding research projects and appreciative collegial exchange.
The employment duration is initially limited to 1 year. By mutual agreement, the contract can be extended to a max. of 3 years.
Your future tasks:

Conduct ethnographic fieldwork in Bosnia and Herzegovina and develop and deliver high-quality, innovative research outcomes on the topic of the project

Work closely with the PI and the other members of the project team to assist in research and outcome delivery, and other tasks as agreed with the PI

Produce research publications for leading international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters in the context of the project

Involvement in supervising of students, project and research administration

Present research findings at relevant national and international conferences and workshops

Produce research dissemination materials for the project's website and social media

Involvement in the organization of meetings, workshops, conferences
This is part of your personality:
Requirements:
- Completed PhD in anthropology, migration studies, media studies, political science, sociology or related discipline
- Outstanding dissertation
- Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in highly renowned, pertinent journals and publishing houses
- Strong interest in and knowledge of migration studies, qualitative and (digital) ethnographic methods, and interest in digital and collaborative research methods
- Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 Level)
- High ability to express yourself in speaking and writing
- IT user skills and strong interest in digital media
- You should be a team player with high social and communicative skills
Further assets:
- Knowledge of (spoken) Arabic and/or Persian and/or Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian
- Experience in external funding acquisition or participation in research projects respectively
