Your personal sphere of influence:
As a University Assistant Praedoc you will join the research team at the Department of Musicology at the University of Vienna. The Institute was founded in 1898 by Guido Adler. With its four professorships (Early Historical Musicology, Modern Historical Musicology, Ethnomusicology and Systematic Musicology), twelve other full-time academic employees, lecturers, project staff members, administrative staff and around 900 students, it is one of the largest musicological institutes in the German-speaking world.
We are looking for applicants who would like to qualify themselves with their own research and subsequent dissertation in the field of systematic musicology and contribute to the diverse projects of our department.
The duration of the contract is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not submit a declaration of non-renewal within the first 12 months.
Your future tasks:
You will be actively involved in research, teaching and administration:
- You will contribute to research projects and academic studies in the field of systematic musicology.
- We expect you to conclude your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
- You will work on and finalise your dissertation.
- You will actively participate in the “Digital Humanities & Quantitative Methods” section of our faculty's Doctoral School
- You will teach courses independently in accordance with the collective agreement.
- You will take on administrative tasks in research and teaching.
This is part of your personality:
- Completed Master's/Diploma programme in musicology with a focus on systematic musicology
- Knowledge of the basics and methods in the field of systematic musicology (i.e. musical acoustics and music psychology)
Desirably you also have:
- Knowledge of room acoustics, auditory perception/psychoacoustics/crossmodal correspondencies, personality tests and statistics as well as
- Initial experiences in academic writing and first conference contributions (national/international)
- Excellent German and English language skills (C1)
- You are a team player with high social/communication skills
