A university assistant (postdoc) position is available at the Department of Functional Materials and Catalysis at the Faculty of Chemistry. The group of Porous Materials lead by Professor Freddy Kleitz at the University of Vienna mainly focusses on the development of nanoporous materials, their characterization, and their applications in numerous fields, such as catalysis, adsorption, bio- and environmental-related applications. In the laboratory of Prof. Kleitz, the researchers have access to state-of-the-art analytic techniques for the characterization of such porous solids, including gas adsorption measurements and methods for the characterization of the materials structures, compositions, and functionalities. The position is advertised for 3 years.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research and teaching duties, which means that the successful candidate will contribute to research projects and scientific studies in the field of mesoporous materials and materials science. The work will also comprise different characterization techniques (e.g. solid-state NMR, low-temperature physisorption of nitrogen, dynamic light scattering, and electron microscopy techniques) to characterize the obtained materials.
Further, the advertised position comprises participation in research and teaching, i.e.:
- Participation in research projects/ research studies.
- Participation in international publications/ academic articles and presentations.
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement.
- Supervision of students.
This is part of your personality:
- PhD in chemistry
- Strong previous experience in the synthesis and characterization of porous materials with particular emphasis towards organic-inorganic hybrid mesoporous materials and their biomedical applications (i.e., drug delivery)
- An excellent background in sol-gel chemistry/processes with a focus on the synthesis of nano-silica materials.
- Experience in working with cellular cultures and cytotoxicity assays is an asset.
- Familiar with chromatographic techniques such as HPLC-MS or HPLC/UV-Vis
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Well-documented list of publications in renowned, subject-relevant peer-reviewed journals.
- Oral participation at international conferences.
- Some knowledge of German is an advantage.
