At the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a

Tenure-Track Professor in the field of Data Science in Mass Spectrometry-Based Omics

The position

We seek to appoint a trained bioinformatician with a high-ranking publication record in computational mass spectrometry of small and large biomolecule analysis. The candidate should have a strong background in efficient data structures and algorithms suitable for bioinformatics. A focus will be the development of innovative algorithms for high-throughput identification of molecules, data analysis, and integration. Therefore, the candidate should have profound knowledge of current statistics and omics analysis methods and an understanding of the common fragmentation mechanism of analyzed biomolecules, and current statistics, including machine-learning strategies and omics methods for spectral interpretation, analysis, and visualization. The position focuses purely on in-silico approaches to improve omics sciences.

The University of Vienna has state-of-the-art infrastructure for mass spectrometry and computing. Data will be available from low- and high-resolution mass spectrometry experiments for small and large molecules, allowing the analysis of a wide range of molecules—from metabolites to lipids and proteins. The computing infrastructure provides a compute server for molecular search engines and raw data storage. In addition, a computer-aided infrastructure is available for metabolic modeling.
