Do you enjoy working with young people, are you curious, and do you want to pass on your knowledge? As a Senior Lecturer, you play a crucial role in educating students. In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. We support students in developing curiosity and critical thinking, and deepening their knowledge in aspects of (business) communication and intercultural exchanges. Thereby we are creating a solid foundation for communicative challenges the next generation may encounter in their professional lives.
Your workplace:
As a Senior Lecturer, you will mainly be employed in teaching Spanish (Business Communication) at the Center for Business Communication, which is part of the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Statistics. You will independently hold language courses at all levels required by the relevant curricula (currently B1 to B2/2 according to the CEFR). The amount of work corresponds to 20 hours, which includes an average teaching obligation of 8.5 hrs/week per semester.
The focus of our subject area lies on teaching business communication, and thus on preparing students for communication challenges in their professional lives in both different linguistic and cultural environments. Our team currently consists of a small core group of permanent employees who, together with committed external lecturers and tutors, take care of the continuous development of the courses we offer.
In case of a positive evaluation at the end of the fixed-term period of 4 years, the position will be changed to a permanent position.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in teaching, research & administration, which means:
- You hold courses independently amounting to an average extent of 8,5 hrs/week per semester.
- You will take on administrative tasks, especially in the administration of teaching.
- We expect from you the ongoing reception of economic developments and the current state of science, as well as your continuing didactic education/training during the lecture-free time.
What we expect:
We are looking for people who see university teaching as an interesting and challenging career field. Requirements for application are:
- Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the fields of Romance Studies or Cultural Anthropology (specialising in Spanish) or an equivalent degree
- Several years of independent teaching at a post-secondary educational institution in the areas of Romance studies or cultural anthropology (with special emphasis on Spanish - business communication)
- Didactic competences / experience with e-learning
- Knowledge of Spanish at a quasi-native speaker level, as well as excellent German skills (C1 Level)
- IT user skills: Secure in the use of Microsoft - Office standard programs; experience with Moodle
- Ability to work in team, flexibility, conscientiousness
Furthermore, (practical) experience with business communication, e.g. in companies, is an advantage.
