Do you enjoy working with young people, are you curious, and do you want to pass on your knowledge?  As a Senior Lecturer, you play a crucial role in educating students. In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. We support students in developing curiosity and problem-solving thinking, thereby creating a solid foundation for the professional challenges of the next generation.

Your workplace:

As a Senior Lecturer, you will mainly be involved in teaching on the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Theatre, Film and Media Studies. Your main task will be to teach courses in the entire field of Theatre studies to the extent of 10 hours per week.

The position is a temporary replacement for the period 1.3.2025 - 28.2.2026.

The ongoing reception of the current state of research as well as further didactic training and taking on research tasks are expected. In addition, taking on administrative activities, especially in the administration of teaching, is part of the job description.

The Vienna Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies, the only one of its kind in Austria, is the largest university institute of its kind in the German-speaking world. At a productive distance from conventional theater and media practice, the institute is above all a place of theoretical debate, but also an interface between academia and artistic practice.

Your future tasks:

You are actively involved in academic teaching, research & administration, which means:

• You independently lead courses at Bachelor's and Master's level
• They make an active contribution to the (further) development of course and examination formats
• The ongoing reception of the current state of research as well as further didactic training and taking on research tasks during the lecture-free period are expected
• In addition, partaking in administrative activities, especially in the administration of teaching, is part of the job profile

What we expect:

We are looking for a person who sees university teaching as an interesting and challenging career field. Prerequisites for application and admission are

• a PhD in the field of Theatre studies
• Several years of independent teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution in the subject area
• Proven teaching experience in the entire field of undergraduate Theatre studies teaching
• Good evaluation of the teaching by students
• a passion for passing on knowledge and for university teaching
• Excellent didactic skills and experience in the field of e-learning
• Ability to work in a team. You are a team player with strong social and communication skills who can be a rolemodel for research ethics and team spirit
• Research experience and research publications
• Practical experience in theatre, especially in the field of contemporary theatre and performance art, and its integration into research-led teaching is desirable
• Excellent knowledge of English (C1); further language skills in connection with international networking at research and teaching level are very welcome
