Position Overview:
You will join a dynamic research team at Pinhasi Lab, Department of Evolutionary Anthropology, focused on paleogenomics of humans, mammals, and pathogens. While expertise in ancient DNA is not required, a robust background in computational approaches to human paleogenomic data is essential. The successful candidate will ideally be an evolutionary geneticist with a strong focus on understanding the processes shaping genetic variation and adaptations.
The postdoc will integrate theoretical and computational methods to study evolutionary mechanisms, in relation to past human migrations, cultural and technological shifts, and admixture history. The specific projects can be discussed; the team has already produced genomic datasets suitable for such analyses.
This position is limited to 31.01.2028.
Your future tasks:
- Develop and implement computational models to analyze genomic data.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and conduct paleogenetic studies.
- Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Contribute to grant applications, including the potential to apply for an FWF Esprit grant for further research funding.
- You supervise the research conducted by master's and doctoral students.
- You contribute to the Department's teaching activities.
Required skills:
- Doctoral degree /PhD in paleogenomics or a related field.
- A track record in the analysis of human genomic data. Bioinformatic Analysis of Large Genomic Datasets for the Study of Genomic diversity and evolutionary dynamics.
- Published papers in human genomic data.
- Experience in designing and participating in research projects, ability to lead research groups.
- A track record in obtaining third-party funding both in international and national calls is not required, but it is an advantage.
- Additional expertise and interest in the study of evolutionary genetics, admixture, and selection focusing on animal paleogenomics, pathogen ancient DNA, and metagenomics (Next Generation Sequencing) is appreciated.
- Capacity to work on a range of datasets (e.g., non-human animals, sedaDNA, etc).
- Willingness to collaborate with interdisciplinary colleagues on diverse projects.
- A strong ability for teamwork.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
